In 24 hours I will hopefully have taken off, en route to Tokyo, returning to Japan after 11 years, I lived there from 2001-2003. It will be an adventure, and luckily not one I will be experiencing alone. My travel partner is Kumi, founder of Fukushima Friends and SLiDE dancer. We met just over two years ago, through a SLiDE project in Croydon, and begun planning our trip in January this year.
Over the coming two weeks we will dance with community and school groups in the Fukushima region of Japan. Lots more on this to come.
Although familiar with Japan I return with a new perspective, as a Dance Artist, a career I embarked on in 2007. Therefore, as I pack my case with my familiar items I pack alongside it an extremely long list of questions which I cannot wait to explore.
I could also cite a list of the emotions I am feeling right now but I will narrow it down to one: trepidation.
Watch this space.
